Proud South Lawndale Neighbors

Born and raised in the heart of Chicago, South Lawndale Electric has been a trusted part of the South Lawndale and Little Village community since 2009. Our roots run deep in this neighborhood, and we take pride in powering the homes and businesses that make our corner of the city so vibrant.

Since 2009!
Our Story - Rooted in Chicago

South Lawndale Electric has emerged as a pioneering force among Chicago electricians since 2009, consistently anticipating industry shifts before they become mainstream. Under Charles Baker's leadership, this locally-owned firm has built its reputation by embracing smart home integration, energy-efficient solutions, and advanced electrical systems that position clients ahead of technological curves.

Our deep understanding of Chicago's unique electrical infrastructure challenges - from century-old buildings to modern commercial developments - enables us to deliver innovative solutions that blend traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology. When you work with South Lawndale Electric, you are not hiring a faceless corporation. You are working with neighbors who have a personal stake in keeping our community safe and thriving.

The company was founded in 2009 when Charles Baker decided to plant roots right here in the South Lawndale neighborhood. Starting with a single work van and a commitment to honest, high-quality electrical service, Charles began taking on residential jobs for families along 26th Street and the surrounding blocks. In those early days, word of mouth was everything, and the reputation for showing up on time, doing clean work, and charging fair prices spread quickly through the tight-knit community.

As demand grew, South Lawndale Electric expanded beyond the immediate neighborhood to serve homeowners and businesses across a wide swath of Chicago's Southwest Side. Today, our service area covers not only South Lawndale and Little Village but also neighboring communities like Pilsen, Brighton Park, Back of the Yards, Cicero, Berwyn, and areas throughout the greater Chicagoland region. Despite that growth, our headquarters and our hearts remain firmly rooted in the neighborhood where it all started.

Over the years, the team has grown from a one-person operation into a skilled crew of licensed electricians who share the same dedication to quality and community that Charles established from day one. Every team member lives in or near the neighborhoods we serve, which means we treat every home and business like it belongs to a friend or family member. That personal connection is something no national chain can replicate, and it remains the foundation of everything we do.

What Sets Us Apart in Chicago

What sets South Lawndale Electric apart in Chicago's competitive electrical contractor landscape is our proactive approach to emerging trends like electric vehicle charging stations, solar integration, and IoT-enabled electrical systems. We do not just respond to current needs; we educate clients about future electrical demands, helping property owners make informed investments that will serve them for decades.

Our thought leadership extends beyond individual projects to shaping industry conversations about sustainable electrical practices and code compliance in Chicago's evolving regulatory environment. Our commitment to continuous education and adoption of new technologies positions South Lawndale Electric as more than service providers - we are strategic partners helping Chicago navigate the electrical demands of tomorrow while maintaining the reliability standards the city demands today.

We invest heavily in the latest diagnostic and installation technologies to ensure every job is completed to the highest standard. Our team utilizes advanced thermal imaging cameras to detect hidden wiring faults, circuit analyzers that pinpoint load imbalances before they become hazards, and CAD-based planning tools for complex panel upgrades and new construction wiring layouts. These tools allow us to work more efficiently and catch potential problems that less-equipped contractors might miss entirely.

Navigating the Chicago regulatory environment is one of the most challenging aspects of electrical work in this city, and it is an area where our local expertise truly shines. We maintain an in-depth, up-to-date understanding of the City of Chicago Electrical Code, which differs significantly from the National Electrical Code used in most other jurisdictions. Our familiarity with Cook County permitting processes, inspection requirements, and the specific standards enforced by Chicago's Department of Buildings means our clients never face costly delays or failed inspections.

Compliance is not just a box we check - it is a core part of our service promise. Whether we are upgrading a vintage two-flat in Pilsen to meet current code or wiring a new commercial buildout on Cermak Road, we ensure that every connection, every circuit, and every panel meets or exceeds the standards set by Cook County and the State of Illinois. Our track record of first-time inspection passes is something we take immense pride in, and it saves our customers both time and money on every project.

Community Involvement

Being part of the South Lawndale community means more than just doing business here. We actively participate in neighborhood events, support local schools and organizations, and contribute to initiatives that make our corner of Chicago a better place to live and work. From volunteering electrical expertise for community centers to sponsoring youth programs, we believe in giving back to the neighborhood that has supported us since day one.

Over the years, we have had the privilege of serving multiple generations of Chicago families. Nothing makes us prouder than when a customer tells us their parents or grandparents also trusted South Lawndale Electric. That continuity of trust is something we never take for granted, and it drives us to maintain the highest standards of workmanship and customer care every single day.

In the South Lawndale and Little Village community, you will find us at nearly every major neighborhood gathering. We are proud sponsors of the annual Little Village Cinco de Mayo Festival and regularly set up a booth to offer free electrical safety tips and home energy-saving consultations to families. We have also partnered with local organizations to provide free smoke detector installations and electrical safety inspections for senior residents in the 22nd Ward, because keeping our most vulnerable neighbors safe is not just good business - it is the right thing to do.

Education is a cause close to our hearts. South Lawndale Electric has established ongoing relationships with several local schools, including Farragut Career Academy and Gary Elementary, where we support STEM programs and career day events. Charles and members of the team regularly visit classrooms to talk about careers in the skilled trades, showing young people that electricians are essential professionals who keep communities running. We also contribute annually to scholarship funds that help South Lawndale graduates pursue vocational training and apprenticeship programs.

Neighborhood safety is another area where we go beyond our day-to-day work. We have donated labor and materials to improve outdoor lighting at local parks and playgrounds, helping to create safer spaces for children and families after dark. We participate in block club meetings to advise residents on electrical hazards and what to look for in aging wiring, and we work closely with the local alderman's office on initiatives to improve infrastructure in underserved blocks. For us, community involvement is not a marketing strategy - it is a reflection of who we are and where we come from.

Meet the Manager
Charles Baker, Manager of South Lawndale Electric

Charles Baker

Manager

Charles Baker brings over fifteen years of specialized electrical engineering expertise to his role as manager of South Lawndale Electric, combining advanced knowledge in commercial and residential electrical systems with deep proficiency in energy-efficient technologies and smart grid integration. His technical foundation encompasses complex power distribution, industrial automation controls, and cutting-edge renewable energy solutions, positioning him as a trusted authority in modern electrical infrastructure.

A Chicago native through and through, Charles grew up on the city's South Side and developed an early appreciation for the skilled trades by watching his uncle, a union pipefitter, work on buildings across the metropolitan area. After completing his electrical apprenticeship and earning his Illinois licensed electrician credentials, Charles spent years honing his craft with established firms in the Chicagoland area before deciding to open his own shop in the South Lawndale neighborhood he had come to love. That firsthand connection to Chicago's working-class neighborhoods informs every decision he makes as a business owner.

One of Charles's greatest strengths is his deep familiarity with the wide range of building types found across Chicago. From rewiring knob-and-tube systems in century-old greystones and bungalows to installing modern load centers in newly constructed mixed-use developments, he has seen and solved it all. He holds multiple certifications, including OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety, EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerant handling, and specialized training in electric vehicle supply equipment installation. Charles is also a certified Level II thermographer, which allows him to perform infrared electrical inspections that identify potential failures invisible to the naked eye.

For Charles, customer service is not a department - it is a philosophy that guides every interaction. He personally answers calls from new customers, visits job sites to ensure work meets his standards, and follows up after every project to confirm complete satisfaction. He believes that clear communication, transparent pricing, and respect for a customer's home or business are just as important as technical skill. That approach has earned South Lawndale Electric hundreds of five-star reviews and a loyal customer base that spans multiple generations of Chicago families.

Looking ahead, Charles's vision for South Lawndale Electric is to remain a neighborhood-first company while continuing to grow its capabilities. He is investing in training the next generation of electricians from within the community, expanding the company's solar and EV charging services, and working toward making energy-efficient upgrades more accessible to working families throughout South Lawndale and Little Village. His goal is simple: to build a company that the neighborhood can count on for another fifteen years and beyond, delivering the same honest, high-quality service that started it all back in 2009.
